The data was obtained by comparing invasive cancer cells in mice to a control group of animals (without the broccoli microgreens in the diet). A study from the University of Alabama, Birmingham fed pregnant mice a 26% broccoli microgreen diet and compared them to the other groups for breast cancer. Other mice were divided into two groups:

  • The mother mice’s offspring who were fed a broccoli diet.
  • Broccoli diet for 4-week-old mice.
  • Adulthood mice aged 8 weeks on a broccoli diet.

The first group had a significantly greater benefit in preventing breast cancer than the second. The third group of mice, however, had no protective effect. Early exposure to the broccoli microgreen diet, according to the study, may be particularly helpful in preventing the later development of breast cancer.

Chickpea Microgreens

Isoflavones are anti-cancer chemicals found in soybeans and peas. Many Asian countries have a tradition of creating soy-based foods, which some feel is one of the reasons why the United States has a greater rate of breast and prostate cancer than Japan or China.
